Major product lines include a complete line of thermoplastic and metal fabricated enclosures, fiber optic cable connection and management systems, and high-performance below-grade vaults.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Engineer – SMC Compounding is key to the efficient operation of mixing, compounding, and molding of the department. Utilizes engineering principles to develop, maintain, and improve the chemical process. Reports to the Director - SMC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitor departmental production quality to ensure that standards are adhered to and direct correction of off-standard conditions
- Lead team efforts for process improvements and coordinate process development and new product commercialization activities affecting SMC
- Lead and maintain a safe operation by implementing ongoing safety initiatives
- Ensure operations conform to and meet EPA and plant guidelines with respect to safety, health, and environmental control and other governmental orders and permits
- Plan and direct unloading of raw materials at tank farm
- Coordinate rail car movement
- Identify and prioritize key Six Sigma/Kaizen initiatives that can maximize business and plant capability
- Ensure adherence to programs to achieve/maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements & and operating permits
- Solve problems with regard to equipment and systems and participate in the design and start-up of new manufacturing processes and technologies, facilities, and equipment
- Lead the development of scalable, efficient manufacturing processes and control strategies for the continuous mixing operation
- Develop and recommend new processes and technologies to achieve cost-effectiveness and product quality
- Establish current operating equipment specifications and improve manufacturing techniques
- Oversee product development, new product scale-up, process improvement, technology transfer, and process validation activities
- Lead risk assessment for a range of manufacturing processes and safety improvement
- Lead in-depth assessment of molding manufacturing processes, identifies gaps, and proposes plans for improving the capability of existing processes, and takes ownership of implementation
- Perform Cleaning Validation in the procedures used to clean major pieces of equipment used at the facility to manufacture, process, and package SMC
- Perform Process Validation of manufacturing and packaging processes of SMC
- Write and execute protocol covering qualification and validation studies
- Performs other duties as may be assigned

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS Degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical Engineering
- Should have strong knowledge of organic chemistry and engineering
- Strong analytical, technical writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Development of quality system, validation principles for product and manufacturing processes, engineering design fundamentals
- Become familiar with the regulatory environment for thermoset products
- Self-starter and comfortable with ambiguity
- Ability to work with internal clients and independently manage multiple projects with aggressive timelines
- Strong work ethic, organizational skills and a team player
- Effective communication skills with the ability to remain calm and focused under stressful situations
- Strong math and computer skills are essential
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds
- Ability to train and mentor
