Role details
Position Description The research group of Prof. Polshyn at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) invites applications for a postdoctoral position. The successful candidate will use low-temperature scanning probe microscopy (SPM) to experimentally investigate the nature and properties of correlated electrons in van der Waals (vdW) systems, focusing on topological states in graphene moiré heterostructures . Candidates with strong expertise in SPM, low-temperature measurements and instrumentation are especially encouraged to apply.
More details about “Emergent electronic phenomena in 2D materials“ group at ISTA and its research can be found here: https://polshynlab.com The expected length of this appointment is three years: the initial appointment is for one year with an extension for another two years contingent on performance. The start date of the appointment is flexible.
Responsibilities
- Design and conduct low-temperature SPM and electronic transport experiments to investigate the physics of strongly-correlated electronic phases in moiré graphene heterostructures.
- Use nanofabrication facilities at ISTA to create novel devices of van der Waals heterostructures.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Physics (Experimental Condensed Matter).
- Strong expertise in low-temperature scanning probe microscopy techniques or low-temperature electronic transport measurements is required .
- Experience in nanofabrication and micro-characterization techniques is strongly desired .
- Experience in working with van der Waals materials is strongly desired . Please submit your application via this portal. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. For additional information, contact Prof. Hryhoriy Polshyn hryhoriy.polshyn@ist.ac.at About ISTA: The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) is a PhD granting research institution dedicated to cutting-edge research in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry&Materials, Computer Science, and other disciplines. The working language of ISTA is English. The campus of ISTA is in the historic city of Klosterneuburg, on the picturesque outskirts of Vienna – which has been voted as one of the most livable cities in the world. Vienna's beautiful downtown and the Vienna international airport are conveniently accessible by public transportation. ISTA was established in 2006 by the Federal Government of Austria to facilitate world-class basic research and train the next generation of scientific leaders. ISTA currently has about 90 research groups supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure. ISTA has a diverse international population, with students, scientists, and staff from 72 countries.
