We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Project Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will lead the development and launch of new and existing products from concept through production. You will be responsible for product design, tooling development, process development, and the successful introduction of new products and manufacturing processes.
This position plays a key role in supporting innovative plastic injection molded solutions, including components used in electric motors, automotive systems, and other precision-engineered applications.
Essential Job Functions ---------------------------
- Manage projects utilizing Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) guidelines to ensure successful product launches
- Lead product design and development activities from concept through production
- Develop and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to optimize product and process performance
- Create and evaluate prototypes using 3D printing, rapid tooling, machining, and other development methods
- Drive product improvements, value engineering initiatives, and cost reduction opportunities
- Prepare cost analyses, feasibility studies, and technical evaluations for new projects
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to support tooling, gaging, materials, testing, and equipment requirements
- Lead design reviews for new injection mold tooling and manufacturing processes
- Support the development of components and assemblies used in electric motor applications, including overmolded, insert-molded, and precision plastic components that contribute to motor performance, reliability, and manufacturability
- Provide technical support to sales teams, customers, and manufacturing operations
- Build and maintain engineering relationships with automotive OEMs, Tier suppliers, and other key customers
- Participate in customer meetings and travel to customer locations as needed
Qualifications ------------------
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent related experience
- Experience with plastic injection molding processes and product development
- Ability to read and interpret product, tooling, customer, and machine drawings
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software
- Knowledge of GD&T, automotive quality systems, and product approval processes
- Ability to evaluate product and tooling designs for manufacturability (DFM) and troubleshoot molding and tooling issues
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint)
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications ----------------------------
- Experience with overmolding, insert molding, metal stampings, or assembly processes
- Experience developing products for electric motors, motor components, electromagnetic assemblies, sensors, connectors, or other automotive electromechanical applications
- Familiarity with automotive OEM requirements, APQP, PPAP, and launch management processes
- Experience working with high-volume manufacturing environments and automated assembly systems
Physical Requirements -------------------------
- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Ability to perform hands-on evaluations of molds, tooling, fixtures, machinery, and manufactured components
- Ability to travel to customer, supplier, and manufacturing locations as required
- Ability to visually inspect parts, tooling, drawings, and product features, including identifying defects and dimensional variations
