Role details

USRA is seeking a Scientist to support research in low-gravity exploration technology and materials science. Work will focus on combustion, fluid mechanics, and transport processes in microgravity and partial-gravity environments, as well as polymer aerogels. Research will follow NASA-approved procedures and results are expected to be published in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project scientists and provide technical expertise.
  • Lead multiple research projects and mentor graduate and undergraduate interns.
  • Contribute to planning future scientific initiatives.
  • Publish research findings and present at conferences.
  • Participate in customer reviews and independent project milestone reviews.

Citizenship Requirement

U.S. Citizens or Legal Permanent Residents

Required Qualifications

  • Education: PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience:Strong background in microscopy, spectroscopy, experimental techniques, and data analysis. Hands-on experience in electron microscopy, materials characterization, and organic/polymer synthesis preferred. Familiarity with space-based research protocols is a plus.
  • Candidate must be open to training in analytical, numerical, simulation, and data analysis methods.

The candidate is also expected to:

  • Be a team player.
  • Be a self-starter.
  • Have a willingness to learn and collaborate with other scientists.
  • Be curious and open to working on interdisciplinary subjects.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
