🌟 The Opportunity
SiPhox Health is building a first-of-its-kind consumer diagnostics platform that brings complex biochemical analysis into the home through integrated silicon photonics, microfluidics, embedded systems, and advanced assay development.
We are building an ambitious, multiplexed clinical-grade immunoassay menu on our at-home diagnostics platform and are seeking a Process Scientist with surface chemistry expertise, a can-do attitude, logical reasoning, and meticulous attention to detail. This is a rare opportunity to join a high-growth startup at its first major inflection point — with a validated, first-generation platform ready for commercialization and scale-up, alongside active next-generation development.
You will play a critical role in driving both research and commercialization of our diagnostic devices, operating with a high degree of independence while collaborating cross-functionally across the organization.
📋 What You’ll Own
Surface Chemistry & Assay Development
- Design, develop, and evaluate novel surface chemistry approaches to enable immunoassay applications.
- Design and evaluate novel surface chemistry solutions on microfluidic and lab-on-chip devices, with a strong understanding of how device geometry and flow conditions influence surface performance and assay outcomes.
- Troubleshoot performance issues related to surface fouling and non-specific binding.
- Identify and resolve experimental challenges related to assay design, protocol execution, reagent selection, and surface performance.
Product & Process Development
- Define and lead product development efforts, including experimental design, prototyping, functional testing, and data analysis.
- Support the transfer of surface chemistry solutions from research into product development and manufacturing, in close collaboration with process development and operations teams.
- Contribute innovative ideas and technical insight to early-stage concept development and feasibility assessments.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Maintain hands-on scientific leadership, setting the direction for laboratory experimentation and troubleshooting while mentoring junior scientists and guiding their technical development.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues in product management, assay development, engineering, and manufacturing to ensure alignment and successful execution.
- Contribute technical expertise to invention disclosures and patent applications, in collaboration with the IP legal team and senior technical leadership.
- Prepare and deliver high-quality technical reports and presentations that summarize findings, support decision-making, and document development progress.
*And any other assigned duties as determined by leadership.*
✅ What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
- 6\+ years of relevant industry experience in surface chemistry, materials science, or biomolecular interfaces within life sciences or diagnostics.
- Deep expertise in surface chemistry, polymer chemistry, and biomolecule–surface interactions.
- Strong publication and presentation record, with contributions to patents or novel methodologies.
- Ability to operate with a high degree of independence in experimental planning, execution, and data interpretation, requiring minimal day-to-day supervision.
- Strong scientific judgment to extrapolate from existing expertise and address novel or ambiguous technical challenges.
- Proactive mindset to identify risks, knowledge gaps, and opportunities, and to propose data-driven paths forward that shape project scope and organizational priorities.
- Clear, purposeful communication across disciplines to enable alignment, informed decisions, and efficient collaboration.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with microfluidic device design principles, including channel geometry, surface-to-volume ratios, and flow dynamics; experience with device fabrication or commercial lab-on-chip platforms is a plus.
- Familiarity with surface analytical techniques such as AFM, ellipsometry, FTIR, SEM, TOF-SIMS, and XPS.
- Familiarity with manufacturing constraints, process transfer, or scale-up.
📊 KPIs (Success Measures)
- Experimental throughput and quality — number of well-controlled, documented experiments completed per quarter; reproducibility and scientific rigor of results.
- Assay and surface chemistry milestones — on-time delivery of defined development milestones (e.g., achieving target binding performance, completing process transfers).
- Cross-functional collaboration — quality and timeliness of technical documentation, presentations, and knowledge transfer to manufacturing and product teams.
- Innovation contribution — invention disclosures, patent applications, or novel methodologies introduced.
Who Thrives Here
You thrive in fast-paced, highly collaborative environments where priorities evolve quickly. You set ambitious goals and consistently deliver outstanding, measurable results. You act with absolute personal integrity, humility, and a passion for excellence in both science and execution. You’re a calculated risk-taker who challenges conventional solutions and approaches problems from first principles.
