Job Description:

The Cementing Engineer specializing in Plug and Abandonment (P&A) is responsible for the design, planning, and execution of well abandonment operations to ensure wells are permanently sealed in compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. This role involves developing cementing programs for P&A operations, providing technical expertise during well abandonment activities, and ensuring all operations meet safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The position requires close collaboration with operations teams, regulatory agencies, and service providers to deliver safe and cost-effective P&A solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer cement plugs and abandonment programs for well decommissioning operations
  • Develop detailed P&A procedures, including cement slurry designs, placement techniques, and verification methods
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards for permanent well abandonment
  • Provide technical support and oversight during P&A operations, including onsite supervision when required
  • Evaluate wellbore conditions and develop strategies for challenging abandonment scenarios
  • Coordinate with drilling, completions, and operations teams to plan and execute P&A activities
  • Interface with regulatory agencies regarding P&A plans, procedures, and compliance documentation
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for P&A operations
  • Review and approve cement slurry formulations, placement methods, and quality control procedures
  • Monitor and verify cement placement and integrity using appropriate evaluation techniques
  • Prepare technical reports, AFE estimates, and post-job documentation for P&A operations
  • Optimize P&A designs to reduce costs while maintaining regulatory compliance and operational integrity
  • Stay current with evolving P&A regulations, technologies, and industry best practices
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers and operations personnel
  • Participate in lessons learned reviews and continuous improvement initiatives

Skills and Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Experience in cementing operations with specific focus on plug and abandonment activities
  • Strong knowledge of P&A regulations, standards, and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in cementing design software and well abandonment engineering tools
  • Understanding of wellbore construction, completion methods, and abandonment techniques
  • Knowledge of cement slurry chemistry, placement mechanics, and evaluation methods
  • Familiarity with barrier verification techniques and technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex P&A scenarios
  • Excellent communication skills for interfacing with regulatory agencies and stakeholders
  • Ability to read and interpret well schematics, logs, and technical documentation
  • Project management skills with ability to manage multiple P&A projects simultaneously
  • Read, write, and speak fluent English
  • Willingness to travel to field locations and provide onsite support as needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs

Location: Denver, Colorado or within 70 miles

Pay: $1550/ Day
