Job Summary
Electrochemical, Chemical and Analytical Scientist - (PhD Preferred)
Location: Dallas, Texas Company: Max-IR Labs, Inc.
Max-IR Labs is an innovative startup developing analytical devices for industrial applications. We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist with expertise in electrochemistry, ionomer and membrane materials, anion exchange membranes (AEM), and optical analysis.
This position is ideal for a recent PhD graduate or early-career scientist who is excited about hands-on research in a fast-paced startup environment and wants to help translate laboratory innovations into commercial products.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize ionomer formulations for AEM applications.
- Apply and optimize coating and deposition techniques for functional materials.
- Characterize membrane and ionomer properties, including ion selectivity, transport behavior, and chemical stability.
- Conduct laboratory testing, analyze results, and recommend process improvements.
- Utilize analytical and characterization tools including FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, XPS, and related techniques.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and prepare technical reports.
- Summarize experimental findings and present results to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support technology demonstrations, customer evaluations, and collaborative research projects.
- Optical alignment: lasers, lens, mirror alignment
- Software development for instrument control, hardware communication, signal acquisition, and process automation
Qualifications
Required
- PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Physics or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience polymer materials, ionomers, or membrane technologies.
- Strong experimental, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with electronic test and measurement equipment, including voltmeters, oscilloscopes, lock-in amplifiers, and data acquisition systems
- Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a small team.
Preferred
- Experience with membrane fabrication and coating processes.
- Familiarity with electrochemical characterization techniques.
- Experience transitioning research concepts toward practical applications or commercialization.
Work Environment
This role requires significant hands-on laboratory work. As a startup, team members are expected to be flexible, self-motivated, and willing to contribute across multiple technical areas.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and perform occasional field work, including standing, walking, bending, and transporting instrumentation and equipment.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident (Green Card) status is required.
Travel
Occasional travel may be required for technology demonstrations, customer meetings, and collaborative research activities.

Pay: $68,266.15 - $82,213.00 per year
