Role details

We're a growing wellness and consumer-products company building our own line of dietary supplements. We're looking for a hands-on Formulation Scientist who can take a product from concept to a stable, manufacturable, compliant formula across three formats: compressed and chewable tablets, powdered drink mixes and stick packs, and multi-ingredient blends.

You'll own the science behind what we ship — designing formulas, sourcing and qualifying raw materials, running bench and pilot trials, dialing in flowability, compression, taste, and shelf stability, and preparing each formula for handoff to manufacturing. This is a builder's role for someone who likes the bench and wants real ownership over the products that go to market.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and optimize formulations for compressed tablets, chewables, powdered blends, drink mixes, and capsule fills
  • Translate product concepts into precise, scalable formulas with defined actives, excipients, overages, and dosing
  • Run bench- and pilot-scale trials; troubleshoot compression, hardness, friability, disintegration, capping, and sticking
  • Solve powder-handling problems: flowability, bulk and tapped density, particle size, segregation, blend uniformity, moisture and hygroscopicity, caking
  • Formulate excipient systems — binders, disintegrants, lubricants, glidants, fillers, anti-caking agents, coatings
  • Develop flavor systems, sweetener blends, and taste-masking approaches for powders and chewables
  • Source and evaluate raw materials; qualify suppliers and work with contract manufacturers (CMOs) on scale-up
  • Run and interpret stability testing — potency retention, moisture, dissolution, appearance — and set shelf life
  • Write and maintain formula documentation, specifications, master batch records, and technical transfer packages
  • Ensure formulations and labels meet FDA dietary supplement regulations, 21 CFR Part 111 cGMP, and supplement facts panel requirements
  • Support scale-up from bench to full production and troubleshoot issues on the manufacturing floor
  • Track ingredient, delivery-format, and market trends to keep the pipeline competitive

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science, Nutrition, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on formulation experience
  • 2\+ years formulating dietary supplements, nutraceuticals, or comparable powdered/solid-dose consumer products
  • Working knowledge of tablet compression and powder blending; comfortable diagnosing why a batch won't compress or won't flow
  • Strong grasp of ingredient functionality, actives, excipients, and overage calculations
  • Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 111 cGMP, FDA dietary supplement rules, and supplement labeling requirements
  • Rigorous documentation habits and the ability to run several products in parallel
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable in a small, fast-moving team

Nice to Have

  • Experience with high-potency or difficult actives, botanical extracts, or functional ingredients
  • Stick-pack, sachet, or single-serve drink-mix development experience
  • Sensory and taste-masking experience with bitter or off-flavor actives
  • Direct experience coordinating with contract manufacturers on tech transfer and scale-up
  • Familiarity with analytical testing methods (HPLC, dissolution, moisture analysis) and reading third-party COAs

Why Join Us

  • Real ownership — your formulas become products people actually buy
  • Room to build across a full product line, not one narrow SKU
  • Small, fast-moving team where your work ships quickly

Pay: $70,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year

Application Question(s):

  • In what field is your degree (e.g., Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science, Nutrition, or a related field)?
  • Do you have hands-on experience with tablet compression or powder blending? Please briefly describe.
  • Have you worked under 21 CFR Part 111 cGMP for dietary supplements?
