Job Summary
The School of Polymer Science and Engineering (SPSE) at The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2026. We seek an exceptional scholar whose research and teaching will complement and expand the School’s strengths in polymer science and engineering. Candidates with research interests in any contemporary area of polymer science and engineering are encouraged to apply.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities • Develop and sustain an externally funded, internationally recognized research program • Deliver high-impact instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses in polymer science and engineering, fostering a dynamic and experiential learning environment. • Mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate researchers, emphasizing professional development and scholarly excellence. • Contribute to the mission of the School, College, University, and broader scientific community through professional service.
Minimum Qualifications Earned Ph.D. in polymer science and engineering or a closely related discipline
Demonstrated record of research productivity, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, and/or grant submissions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Ability to work effectively, collaboratively, and collegially with students, staff, and faculty • Commitment to fostering a world-class research and learning environment in which faculty, staff, and students can thrive • Exceptional written and oral communication skills • Knowledge associated with use and application of common instrumentation and methodologies in polymer science and engineering
Preferred Qualifications Postdoctoral research experience with clear potential to build collaborative research programs within SPSE and across disciplines
