Process Engineer – Plastics Manufacturing

ASK Power is seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to improve process performance, manufacturing-cell efficiency, safety, quality, tooling performance, and equipment reliability at our Naperville, Illinois operation. This role will support plastics manufacturing processes, new-tool sampling and qualification, production launches, automation, and structured technical problem-solving.

What You Will Do

  • Own and improve equipment, process, and product-quality performance within assigned manufacturing cells.
  • Identify and implement measurable improvements in safety, quality, scrap, downtime, cycle time, manufacturability, and overall equipment efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot process, tooling, machinery, material, and automation issues using data and structured root-cause analysis.
  • Apply scientific molding and manufacturing technology to develop stable, repeatable, and cost-effective processes.
  • Sample, troubleshoot, validate, and qualify new tooling and manufacturing processes before production launch.
  • Support robust process development, documentation, validation, and successful start-up of new tools and processes.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, vendors, customers, and leadership.
  • Prepare and analyze process data, technical reports, ERP information, and recommendations for management.
  • Support quality-improvement initiatives and complete work accurately, professionally, and on time.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum two-year degree in plastics or a related technical field, or at least 10 years of relevant plastics or technical manufacturing experience.
  • Working knowledge of molding processes and equipment, including process troubleshooting.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand tooling, machines, automation, and shop-floor equipment.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, spreadsheets, data entry, and report generation.
  • Experience with Epicor ERP or a similar ERP/business system.
  • Ability to analyze process data and apply practical mathematics, including percentages, ratios, proportions, probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively across departments.

Preferred Experience

  • Three or more years of process engineering, plastics, manufacturing engineering, technical manufacturing, or related industrial experience.
  • Injection molding, blow molding, assembly operations, scientific molding, automation, tool-room activity, and process-driven manufacturing.
  • New-tool sampling, tooling and process qualification, process validation, root-cause analysis, documentation, and ERP-based reporting.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.

Position Details

  • Location: Naperville, Illinois.
  • Employment type: Full-time, regular.
  • Pay range: $80,000–$85,000 annually.
  • Limited travel may be required to support vendors, customers, trials, tooling/process qualifications, or operational needs.
  • This role works in office, production-floor, manufacturing-cell, and tool-room environments and requires compliance with posted safety practices and PPE requirements.
  • The position may occasionally require lifting or moving up to 40 pounds and may involve standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing/pulling, grasping, and use of hand tools.
